[NEW RELEASE] DC ADMIRAL

The Admiral is a new model that comes under the umbrella of the DC Life Collection, which whether you know it or not, has been around for seven years now. Higher than Joe Cocker, this slimline flopper would seem to fit into the ‘skater at leisure’ category. Inoffensive it might be in its simplicity, but the Admiral’s general neatness also grows on you after a while, and we can kinda dig it for what it is, even if our favorite is what appears to be the lowtop version known for some reason as the Sector 7. It’s also another sign of a dressy step-up in direction from DC and might be just a small hint as the brand tries to reestablish a new identity in the wake of the brand’s founding father moving on to greener pastures.

Perhaps it’s fashion’s obsession with the perennial military theme, but this Admiral seems to evoke a dormant memory of cadets, epilettes, gold buttons and marching bands. Maybe it shoulda been called the Major? Either way, it’s made from full grain leather, has neat canvas panels, sticky rubber and steers clear of the usual chunky skate styles we have seen from DC.

The Life Collection at DC is on offer to a small group of retailers globally... check your local store.

Hiring music entertainment can arguably be the most important booking made for your wedding. Guests remember whether or not they had fun at your wedding. What you pay for is what you get is a good rule of thumb. However, I would like to educate the consumer, future brides and grooms, of how to hire a DJ and things to consider. The following are 9 important factors to consider when hiring a disc jockey BEFORE you sign the contract.

1. Who would be the DJ for your occasion? Many DJ companies are a multi-system operation. Be sure to have in writing of who your DJ will be at your event. I would recommend meeting your DJ before hiring the company at a neutral place, like a restaurant.

2. How many years experience does your DJ have with your type of function? Anyone can pretend to be a DJ. If you are having a formal event, does your DJ know how to organize a wedding reception or a grand entrance? The DJ should perform the type of show that you want!

3. Does the DJ get everyone involved dancing or do they just play music? You have to ask yourself if you want a DJ that will get everyone dancing? For example, will the DJ involve guests by playing and conducting motivational dances like the Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey, Cha Cha Slide or just play music?

4. Will the DJ be dressed appropriately? Formal means tuxedo or dress. Semi-formal means dress pants, shirt & tie or slacks and blouse. Casual means polo shirt or company shirt. Be sure the DJ is dressed appropriately during set-up and takedown of equipment. Some guests do arrive early and stay late.

5. What is the DJ's fee? How much is overtime? Is a tip included in the fee? Will there be an extra charge for lighting-what does the lighting include? How much is travel to your location? Are you ONLY paying for the time the DJ performs?

6. Does the DJ include a contract? Be sure to have all details of your function in writing. The DJ must know the date, place, and time! You must know each other's names and phone numbers including the DAY of the occasion.

7. Is the DJ company professional? This may sound silly, but does the DJ have insurance? Accidents do happen. It's better to be prepared. Also, is the DJ a member of a national DJ association like ADJA or NAME? If they are, then they care about what they do and are a better chance of being professional.

8. What kind of equipment does the DJ use? Typically, if a DJ is using a brand of equipment you can buy at your local retail store, then that's what you will get. Excellent brand names include: JBL, Community, Denon, Gemini, QSC, Crown, etc. Always, and I mean always, ask if the DJ has back-up equipment WITH them for your function. Also, be sure the DJ brings the right amount of sound for the number of guests expected.

9. What music do you play? How many music selections will the DJ have WITH them? Be sure your DJ takes requests before and during your function. Also, give them a guideline of what you want played. However, this is what the DJ is paid to do. Don't limit the DJ by saying you want all of one kind of music or a list of 100 songs they must play. The best scenario is to play any type of music that gets people dancing and having fun. By the way, it should be understood the DJ does not play any offensive music.

I hope this helps!

[NEW RELEASE] PUMA CLYDE X TOMMIE SMITH - NAVY

At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, Tommie Smith and his teammate John Carlos came in first and third, respectively, in the 200-metre dash. As they received their medals, each man raised a black-gloved fist, creating an image that will always stand as an iconic representation of the complicated times of race, politics, and sports.

PUMAs relationship with track star Tommie Smith dates back to the '60s. Tommie set seven individual world records in track and field, which included the gold medal win at the '68 Olympics (with the world record time of 19.83 seconds). He also played professional football for the Cincinnati Bengals for one season and was elected into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1978. A tribute to this brave athlete and his favorite pair of PUMA sneakers (the Clyde in navy suede) the Tommie Smith Clyde collection features 2 exclusive Clyde offerings.

Blue Suede Clydes
These are the shoes that Tommie wore on the podium at the 1968 Olympic games. They have been lined with a metallic gold leather lining, a reference to his gold medal win. Included is the Mexico City reference on the sock-liner with the tongue labels displaying his record breaking time of 19.83 s in the 200M race.

Becoming a DJ is harder than one think, because of expensive equipment. You need to understand that a DJ doesn't have just one or two pieces of equipment, but rather a whole assembly of components. This allows beginners, especially, to build their of DJ mix set and get components from different companies to suit their price needs.

The greatest price margin can be found on mixers. With a huge amount of modern day features they range anywhere from $200 to $2000 and above. Amateur DJs are usually able to work just fine with ones ranging from $200-$500 when working on a budget. Amateur DJ's usually start here because even big names in the DJ equipment market such as Numark, Gemini, Aiwa, Akai, etc. produce such small economy speakers.

If you want to be great at mixing then you should go with turntables before DVD, CD or MP3 players. Yes, turntables are more expensive, but there are some quite affordable ones from companies such as Gemini at around $400. Getting faster playing records without lag usually requires direct drive turntables and is preferred over beltdriven ones by most DJ's.

Players are cheaper than turntables because they don't offer the more advanced features that turntables have. Players only output audio and doesn't allow for manipulation of sound like turntables do. DJs that just play original records go for players.

Getting a pair of cheap speakers is not unusual, so look around for cheaper speakers as that's a very normal thing to do. A low wattage speaker can be selected to save costs. There are small woofer-type speaker at around $20 each that can output stereophonic sound.

You can also get a DJ package which includes all of the most basic components you need and also headphones. You get a DJs discount for getting a package and they usually come with a pair of headphones to boot. Packages are available generally for the mixers.

Using cheap equipment may take its toll on the music; but most DJs that have talent and creativity will be able to perform anyway. The most common buyer for cheaper Djs equipment is amateurs who have just gotten started and want to try the profession before moving on to bigger and better events.

It's a great place with a wide variety of speakers, mixtables, turntables and other equipment. Don't forget to check out the ebook on how to become great using their recommended course on how to make $100,000+ per year as a DJ!

Blues Guitar Scales Are Awesome

Ask any guitarist (whether they play blues, rock, metal, jazz, or country) how often they use blues guitar scales. I'll bet 99% of them will tell you that they do every day they pick up their guitar.

Blues scales are so popular in guitar music because they are easy to play and sound really cool.

Think of your most favorite, and the greatest guitar solos of all time. What do they have in common?

Blues guitar scales!

Alright, time for a little bit of theory. The blues scale is built out of the root, flat third, fourth, flat five, five, and flat seven of a given key. So, in the key of E the notes E, G, A, Bb, B, and D would spell an E blues scale.

If you haven't learned your first blues scale yet on your guitar, you ought to start off with the E blues scale in open position. Open position means that your fretting hand will hang around by the nut and that there will be some open strings in the scale. In fact, about half of the strings will be open in this scale which is why it's a very easy scale to learn, especially for a beginner. It shouldn't take more than five minutes to find a tab for this.

So after you've got that one under your belt you ought to start moving that shape around to play blues guitar scales in different keys. Starting with the most common keys on the guitar, like A D C G and B, is wise. Then get used to moving it around through the circle of fifths.

It's also cool to master the scale in one key all over the entire fretboard, or up and down the single strings.

No matter why you want to learn blues guitar scales, you will be a better guitarist for it.

Dreamsploitation - Continue to Dream, if only Sleeping

myspace Today has been a debacle of a day. Not to sound like a throw away from the Matrix, but the thing about working a computer job is that there are some days where you basically feel like… (in post Quick hitters:: Dreamsploitation from HeroBlog. )

No doubt, you must have seen musicians playing the guitar someway or another. They could be in bands, in streets, or even friends showing off some tunes and getting amazing reactions. Nevertheless, some point in your life you must have asked yourself if you could play like that or even better.

The guitar is a very popular instrument nowadays. Not only that, it also stimulates your brain and gets you smarter! In addition to this, it's also one of the easiest instruments to learn how to play. Unlike complex instruments like the violin the guitar is pretty easy to get at. Because of this, the guitar has become a very common and liked instrument by many.

If you have decided you want to play the guitar you should realize the many benefits that come along with playing any instrument. Playing an instrument can help you get rid of stress and even be used as a way to escape from hard issues or problems that are affecting you. Playing the guitar also has been studied and the music played is known to help with depression and to give more relaxing moods.

Also, the guitar is a great way to give back to others. Playing an instrument for someone else or writing a song for someone can really impress your friends and be a way to share your talents with the world.

Now, before starting on learning how to play the guitar be sure to realize that you will never reach perfection. Guitarists that say they are the best are anything but it. The best guitarist knows that they still have lots of improvements and never settles for anything.

If you're just starting out, learning to play a new instrument can seem impossible on your own. Fortunately, there are lots of resources out there such as books at libraries, courses, and even private lessons you can take. Which path you take is up to you. The best way to learn, however, is through interaction with someone or something that can tell you if you're right or wrong.

Pierce Rainer has a free 5 day e-course that teaches you to learn how to play the guitar.

[NEWSFLASH] MADE IN QUEENS

Since last summer a posse of Trinidadian teenagers, calling themselves Legal Intentionz, living on the dreary outskirts of Queens have been putting their DIY skills to work rebuilding old bmx bikes into enormous homemade pa-systems on wheels. These bad-boys pump out over 5000 watts each in a tight mix of everything from Shabba Ranks to Zapp & Roger, and are even more powerful than some competition-level car audio systems. It would be enough to stop traffic on Liberty Avenue if it weren’t gridlocked already. Even the subway running overhead has been rendered inaudible.

It was all peachy until April when the Legal Intentionz garage was broken into and nearly all the group’s equipment was stolen. Word on Liberty Avenue is that it was an inside job. The gear (worth over $10K) had allegedly been stolen by a jealous up-and-comer in the crew.

Legal Intentionz crew members had been keeping mum about the identity of the alleged perpetrator until the documentary crew who has been shooting the film Made In Queens chronicling them had their cameras rolling. Like something out of Shakespeare, the ex-member had stolen the gear in order to defect and create a new, rival stereo bike crew - with him as it’s leader. Meanwhile somewhere underneath the Van Wyck Expressway somebody was getting a sweet deal out the back of a van.

Was this to be the end of the original Legal Intentionz crew? Turns out audio manufacturers were hip to the crew and loved what they were doing. Eager to encourage the birth of a lucrative market, boxes and boxes of donated new gear arrived from the likes of Pioneer, JL Audio and Kinetik. The Legal Intentionz crew is ready to protect their turf. Prepare for a showdown of tinnitus-inducing proportions. It’s about to go down.

The location is Liberty Avenue. The film is MADE IN QUEENS.

Broadway as a symbol

Broadway is the street in New York that has come to symbolize live theater entertainment and musicals throughout the world. Today the area, known to tourists and theater-goers, stretches from W.41st Street, where the Netherlander Theater is located, up to W. 53rd Street's Broadway Theater. Only four theaters are located physically on Broadway, the Marquis at 46th Street, the Palace at 47th Street, the Winter Garden at 50th Street and the Broadway at 53rd. All the other legitimate houses are located east or west of this twelve block stretch.

Broadway Stars.

By the 1830's America was exporting stars to Europe. The first notable American actor to make a successful tour was Edwin Forrest, who at nineteen, had played Iago to Edmond Kean's Othello. Forrest's second tour of Great Britain, in the following decade didn't fare as well. He was hissed off stage. Though the disruption of his tour was a personal feud with a British actor, its results were well publicized in the American Press and his return to the American stage was received with populist fervor. This "personal feud" became an international incident and demonstration of class struggle in 1849, when the British actor in question was scheduled to perform at the Astor Place Opera House in New York. A riot ensued on the night of May 10th which was put down with troops and cannon.

Broadways first marquis.

In 1891, the first electric marquis was lit on Broadway. The theater was on Madison Square at the intersection of Broadway and Fifth Avenue at W. 23rd Street. The Flatiron Building now occupies the site. By midway through the following decade, the street blazed with electric signs as each theater announced its shows and stars in white lights. By the turn of the 20th Century the street had an entirely different look, with as many as sixteen theaters on Broadway itself and many others located on the side streets or other avenues. Broadway was much more than a mere twelve blocks. It started at 13th Street and wound its way a mile and a half up the Avenue to 45th Street, ending in the heart of Long acre Square. This first decade of the century also saw the construction of many theaters, most notably the New Amsterdam on 42nd Street in 1903, along with four others in that same year, that are still standing today.

Our Broadway.

The first decade of the 20th Century was both boring and transformational in the history of our Broadway Musicals. The seeds of that transformation go back to 1882, and the construction of The Madison Square Theater at 24th Street. The Mallorys, who had built the theater, had employed a young actor-manager from San Francisco along with two brothers from the lower Eastside to help manage the theater. David Belasco, who had the distinction of appearing on stage with another unknown child, Maude Adams, in San Francisco in 1877, was soon to become a playwright, theater owner and builder. The two brothers from the lower Eastside were, of course, Charles and Daniel Frohman. The first sign of the transformation occurred when producer Rudolf Aronson decided to build a theatre of his own. At the time, theatres were concentrated between Union Square and 24th Street.

A.A. Bondy - Killed Myself When I Was Young

You ever get the feeling that everyones at a party somewhere and they didnt invite you? And youre kicking your heels at home while theyre all out enjoying themselves? Well, I spent the whole of year 2007 reading… (in post AA Bondy from Bon Ton. Download this at eMusic Amazon iTunes More by this artist at eMusic)

Have you ever been singing around the campfire with friends, wishing that it were you who were playing the guitar instead? Playing the guitar is a skill that will make you someone others look up to, especially if you're a teen. You may be invited to more parties by people who don't know how to play the guitar. Besides, if you are interested in playing a guitar, it could be that your parents won't be inclined to make you take lessons for an instrument you are not interested in.

The Guitar

If playing the guitar interests you, the first thing you need is a guitar. You can find guitars at music stores and sometimes at department stores. If you know someone who knows how to play, bring them with you when you go to pick one out.

Do you want an acoustic guitar or an electric one? Each one has its own pros and cons. While it may be a little easier to learn to play guitar music with an electric guitar, you will also need to buy an amp, a pick and a cable. You'll need to learn to use all those buttons and knobs as well as learn to play the guitar.

While it can be a bit more challenging to learn to play guitar music with an acoustic guitar, this type is a less complicated. All you'll need to purchase is the guitar and an inexpensive pick. If you're choosing one for a child who gets easily frustrated, you may consider an electric guitar only because it is easier to play and they will feel they are making more progress.

Guitar Lessons

Now you need to find a guitar teacher. Ask around and check the local paper and bulletin boards. You may call the music stores in town and see if they offer lessons or if they can recommend a good teacher in your area.

If you only want to learn a few chords so you can play simple songs, it is possible to learn guitar from books, online lessons or videos. However, if you want to learn to play guitar music that is more complicated, or if you really want to master the instrument, you will benefit much more from private lessons with a good instructor. They'll be able to give you personal attention and correct beginner mistakes quickly so you will learn more. You'll also get immediate feedback, which will keep you motivated.

General Advice

Before you begin your lessons, take a little time to learn the basics of your guitar and get used to it. This way, valuable lesson time will be spent learning your beginning exercises and not on things like the parts of the guitar or how to hold it.

Playing the guitar should be fun. Don't do it if you're not really interested and if someone else only wants you to. If you enjoy it, you'll find you want to practice more, which will make you progress more quickly. If you're not enjoying it, maybe you need a new teacher, or need to make changes in your schedule.

Many musicians who play the guitar mention the satisfaction they get from knowing how to play. Sitting alone and playing guitar music makes them feel good. It is also fun to play for others. By having the skills to be confident in pulling out a guitar while surrounded by friends will make you the center of attention.

What's the secret to bending strings?

If you watch any great guitarist play, they make it look easy. But that's only because they have put in the thousands of hours of practice that it takes.

Here's a few tips on string bending:

Always wrap your thumb around the neck when you bend strings. This is contrary to "classical technique" but string bending is a modern electric guitar technique so if you're stuck on following the rules, this is the time to bend them.

Your thumb will serve as an anchor and pivot point when you are bending. Have a look at some videos of the great guitarists and watch how they do it.

The most common mistake amateur guitarists make when they try to bend strings is that they push with their fingers. That is not the way to do it. Your fingers' job is to keep the string pressed to the fret. The bending motion comes entirely from rotating the wrist.

Here's how to get the hang of it:

Find a door with a knob. Open the door with your fretting hand. Guess what? The motion you just made is exactly the right motion for bending strings. Do it a few more times and pay attention to how it feels.

Now, go back to your guitar. Bring your hand up to the neck and remember to wrap your thumb around. Relax your arm. Practice making the doorknob motion using your thumb as a pivot point and anchor.

After you've gone through the motions, start trying to bend fretted notes. The easiest note to start with is the 12th fret on the B string. Don't go for anything over a half step to start. Practice slowly, and try to hold the bent notes as long as you can to build up stamina.

If you can get the hang of bending, you will be able to add some of the most expressive sounds to your guitar vocabulary.

How To Write Songs - Power Nouns

How to write songs, here's the secret of power nouns. Using power nouns is the secret that all great songwriters use but very few amateur songwriters understand about how to write song lyrics. Successful songwriting requires you the songwriter to use nouns or names to catch the listener's interest.

Using names, names, names and more names will deepen the emotional connection of your song with the listener. How's that you say? Well people are interested in other peoples lives and stories.

Personalizing your song by naming persons, places and things is the simple secret to do that. Songwriting assistance to make your song more memorable is only a noun away. Your songwriting depends on this technique. You will give your songs an immediate lift if you do this.

If you don't want to take my word for it then listen to some great songs that have stood the test of time and count how many times they use specific power nouns to name persons, places or things in a song.

Notice how many song titles have used names in them. The Beatles did this all the time. How about: Hey Jude, Ellenor Rigby, Rocky Raccoon, Yellow submarine, etc. The number is unbelievable if you look at it this way.

So why aren't most amateur songwriters doing it? Good question, they should be, it's a tried and proven method of catching the listener's interest. It brings specific information to the song that sets a context that feels real, believable and touchable.

This secret goes hand in hand with the technique of "show don't tell". The more specific your songs are the better the listener will appreciate them. Using names of persons, places and things will do this for your song.

Acoustic Guitar

Is it the fact that the acoustic guitar is harder to play? Or is it, that it has a more natural sound? Personally I just love what comes out of them (most of the time anyway)! Too me there is not too many things as cool as an acoustic guitar tuned to and open chord. I love the fact that when I do this all the notes are in different places and I come up with new things that I would have in standard tuning.

Maybe it's the fact that there is no distortion or reverb or anything else coming out of an amp. It's just the guitar. Simple as that.

As a kid I hated the acoustic guitar because it was so hard to play. I remember trying to play chords and how bad they sounded. But overtime as I got better at it and practiced it more and more I began to fall in love with the sound. Even the feel. I now love the fact that it is a little harder to play. It's comfortable at this point.

I also love the fact that I can take an acoustic guitar with me and go walk into some field where t
What is it about the acoustic guitar that everybody loves? I know so many players of all types of music. Some of them love every kind of music; some of them only like their kind of music. All of them however love any kind of music we play on acoustic guitar. We can play folk tunes together or blues or fiddle tunes, it doesn't matter we just jam.
here is no one around and just play. If you have never sat on a rock by a stream with the sun reflecting off the water and just had a jam I highly recommend it. No one around, no distractions, just you the guitar and nature. It's pretty amazing.

I think maybe there are a many reasons to love acoustics, as there are players. It's just a beautiful invention and I am glad I got involved with acoustic guitars.
